Zhuhai Port bags billion dollar deal in Pakistan

Chinese port infrastructure firm Zhuhai Port Holdings Group Co. Ltd. took a Rmb6.5 billion (US$1.02 billion) construction order from China Overseas Port Holding Co, the state-owned firm operating the Gwadar port in Pakistan. Zhuai Port’s shares rose 10% after news of Zhuhai Port’s contract emerged. The Gwadar port is the first in a foreign country included in the China Belt and Road Initiative, which seeks to connect China with Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe for shared development. Business Manager Wu Yuping of China Overseas Port Holdings said the Gwadar port will enhance economic development in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province and the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
