Manufacturing Sector Slowdown

China’s manufacturing sector slowed for the sixth consecutive month in October and by more than expected, as the trade dispute with the US drags on. Industrial production, the biggest engine of China’s economy, expanded at an annual rate of 4.7% YoY, down from 5.8% YoY the month before, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. “The disappointing October activity data suggests a further slowdown in Q4 2019 cannot be avoided,” notes Julius Baer Economic Researcher Sophie Altermatt.
