The Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) is the centrepiece of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s foreign policy. In 2017, he even wrote it into the Communist Party’s constitution. Amid the pandemic, while many nations may be wishing they could continue to push forward with projects they signed, many BRI projects are stalling as countries struggle with the impacts of their domestic COVID-19 situation. Overall, China seems to be confident that “BRI will become a catalyst for global economic recovery.”
